Tourism Minister K.J. Alphons on Thursday was elected unopposed as Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan after the Congress did not put up a candidate.
The seat had fallen vacant after former MP M. Venkaiah Naidu was elected as the Vice President.
His nomination was opposed by Rajasthan BJP MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari.
Alphons is a 1979 batch IAS officer from Kerala cadre.
He is currently serving as the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Culture, and Tourism.
