Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp. has been fined three million dollars in a United States-related acceleration case that led to the death of a woman in 2007.
The fatal crash was due to a technical flaw, and an Oklahoma jury found the Toyota Camry's electronic system defective.
The jury also said that the company had acted with reckless disregard, which caused the serious accident in the United States, the Japan Times reports.
The jury awarded 1.5 million dollars each in compensatory damages to Jean Bookout, a driver injured in the 2007 crash, and the family of Barbara Schwarz, who was killed in the same, the report added.
The lawsuit is one of several hundred claims filed against Toyota in state and federal courts of U.S. claiming that the company's vehicles inadvertently accelerate.
