Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday said that black marketing of onions should be stopped, and added that her government is taking all measures to improve and stabilize the prices as soon as possible.
"The situation is serious, and we trying our best so that situation improves and prices stabilize. We are getting 8000 quintals from Kolhapur, Nashik, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. I ask traders involved in black marketing of onion to stop in the interest of the people," she told media here today.
"Traders have opened stalls outside vegetable mandis to give onions at reasonable price. We used to sell onions through vans or trucks in Delhi so prices stabilize, we are going to write to Election Commission if we could restart it," she added.
She further said that a lot of onions had gone waste due to heavy and prolonged rains.
Dikshit also said a team would go to Pune to assess how the local administration has been able to reduce onion prices.
"Prices in Pune has come down to Rs. 40 per kilogram, our teams will go there to negotiate. Talks are also on with National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) to procure onions on no profit no loss basis," she said.

The wholesale and retail prices of onion across the country skyrocketed once again, ranging between Rs. 80 and Rs. 90.
Onion prices have hit Rs 90 to 100 per kg in Delhi.
