Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal dropped out of the 2016 presidential campaign after being hamstrung by weak national poll numbers, low fundraisings as well as near- to-the-ground approval ratings in his home state.

The Guardian quoted the Republican as saying that it had been a great honour for him to run for the President of the United States but the time had come for him to suspend his candidacy.

Jindal faced a smorgasbord of obstacles during his campaign, which included weak poll numbers and low fundings. He was met with low approval ratings in his home town where only a third of voters batted for his leadership, according to the daily.

Jindal's withdrawal from the race is likely to give breathing room to Texas senator Ted Cruz.
