The first broad gauge passenger trial train from Assam's Silchar railway station entered Tripura's Dharmanagar station on Monday after the conversion work was completed recently.
Hundreds of people from whom it was a dream coming true welcomed the train at the station.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has decided to start trial trains between Silchar and Agartala.
Two trains will run between Silchar and Agartala on experimental run on May 4.
The first train bearing number 05664 down whistle past the Silchar station yesterday at around 9 a.m. and reached Agartala at around 7 p.m.
There were 12 coaches, including five general second class compartments, five chair car and two SLRs in the two trains for Agartala.
Similarly two trains will be chugging off from Agartala on May 3 and 5 for Silchar respectively.
Regular broad gauge train service is likely to be inaugurated by the end of this month.
