Dubbing the practice of triple talaq as unconstitutional, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi on Thursday said the respective divorce is not in accord with right to life and dignity.
Asserting that the Centre has filed an affidavit opposing triple talaq Rohatgi told ANI, "The government has filed an affidavit opposing this practice saying it is unconstitutional and is not in accord with right to dignity and right to life. Let us see what happens."
The Supreme Court earlier today referred the triple talaq issue to a constitution bench which will hear the matter on May 11.
A five-member bench will be constituted by the apex court to hear the matter.
