Tripura celebrated the International Yoga Day along with the whole world, starting with a rally to make people aware about the benefits of the discipline.
Students from various schools, colleges, various government, non-government organizations and yoga lovers from all ages participated in the rally.
The central gathering for the celebration was organised in the Rabindra Centenary hall here.
"We feel proud to say that the whole world today has accepted yoga. There is no other alternative than yoga to keep one fit and avoid medicines. With yoga, one can overcome all kind of diseases and can peacefully stay in the Earth and do activities according to mind desire and health's permit," said Indian Yoga Federation working president Rupen Bhowmik.
State health minister Badal Chowdhury in the presence of sports, youth affairs and minority minister Sahid Chowdhury inaugurated the programme by lighting up the lamp.
"I love yoga and it keeps us healthy. We have enjoyed participating here. All 90 of us from the NSRCC participated today. We practice yoga from 3 to 5 p.m.; we were also practicing in the morning because yoga keeps us away from diseases," said a participant, Dipanita Chakraborty.

Various demonstration of yoga were given as hundreds of people participated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the celebrations in Delhi, dubbed the International Yoga Day as the beginning of a new era of peace and goodwill, thanking all those who have contributed to the development of the great discipline.
An estimated 40,000 people participated in the celebrations at Rajpath, with around two billion people taking part across the world.
The yoga celebrations are being organised after the United Nations had in December last year declared June 21 as International Yoga Day.
The proposal was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the UN General Assembly last year.
