Trivandrum Police declares Section 79 of Kerala Police Act to prevent demonstrations

The Trivandrum Police on Friday declared Section 79 of the Kerala Police Act in Thiruvananthapuram to prevent demonstrations, protect marches and meetings till July 30.

Political clashes occurred earlier in the day between major political parties. They attacked houses, party offices, vehicles and other valuable items at various areas in the city.

Looking at the situation, Indian Police Service G. Sparjan Kumar, in a statement, said, "I am taking charge of the situation here as there are chances for further untoward incidents to happen in the city. If protest marches and meetings are held in these places, then the members will be grounded for proceeding under the Section of 79 of Kerala Police Act."

"I do hereby prohibit all forms of demonstrations, protest marches and meetings within the jurisdiction of Thiruvananthapuram City Police limit for 3 days from July 28 to July 30," Kumar added.
