With constructive and positive foreign secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan taking place earlier this week, truck drivers plying on the India-Pakistan border are hopeful of improved relations between the two nations.
The truck drivers believe that peace along the border would increase bilateral trade between the two neighbours.
Arriving at the Attari integrated check post in Punjab to offload gypsum and cement from Pakistan, the drivers discussed the latest development in India-Pakistan relations.
"The resumption in talks will be very helpful for us. It will enhance the peace process between the two nations and it will also help in enhancing the trade," said a Pakistani truck driver, Sajid.
"It will lead to development of both the countries. We can compete with European countries if the relations between the two countries are on the track. The rivalry between the two nations is letting us down. The two countries should increase the bilateral talks and trade," said another Pakistani truck driver, Naushad Ali.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August last year abruptly cancelled a round of talks in Islamabad out of anger after Pakistan's envoy in New Delhi had hosted Kashmiri separatists in preparation.
After a long gap, Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyan Jaishankar met his Pakistani counterpart Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry in Islamabad on Tuesday, as part of his SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) visit.
