The nationwide strike by truckers called by the All India Motor Congress (AIMTC) demanding scrapping of the toll collection system was called off after a meeting with Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday evening.
Interacting with mediapersons here, AIMTC president Bheem Wadhwa said that the minister had assured them that their problems would be resolved by December 15. "The minister has constituted a committee to look into our demands, which will give its report by December 15," he added.
"I held a meeting with the All India Transport Association, which tabled their demands before me. I have assured them that we will analyse their demands, for which I have constituted a committee under the transport secretary and comprising representatives of various transport associations and the departments concerned. The committee will submit its report before December 15," said Gadkari.
"The government will definitely concede their demand to the extent it is feasible," said the minister, adding that he urged the protesting transporters to call off their strike, which they conceded and called off their strike.
The transporters' strike had entered fifth day on Monday.
