The Democrat National Party in the United States has said President-elect Donald Trump's naming his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as his senior advisor, should be reviewed as it is clear case of nepotism and conflict of interest.

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee reportedly asked the Justice Department and the Office of Government Ethics to review Kushner's appointment and all scrutinize legal issues related to it.

Kushner's lawyer, Jamie Gorelick, has said that the anti-nepotism law which applies to presidential administration excludes the White House office where Kushner would be based.

The lawyer added that Kushner will step down from his family business in order to comply with existing laws related to his appointment.

Kushner is related to the President-elect by marriage, but a 1967 law specifies "son-in-law" as a type of relative covered by the regulations.

Kushner, who owns a real estate development firm, has continued to chase deals that raise questions about conflicts of interest.

The 35-year-old businessman-turned-political strategist played a key part in his father-in-law's presidential campaign and his new position is expected to test the limit of federal anti-nepotism rules.
