Personnel of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) organised a mega health camp as part of its civic action programme in the Chachu village in Mohanpur sub-division of the western region of the state, with officers and soldiers donating blood and providing free health and eye check-ups.

The programme, which was inaugurated by Tripura Health Minister Badal Chowdhury, aimed to reach out to the people of remote tribal localities. It is scheduled to continue throughout the month amongst different TSR battalions.

Doctors and medical staff attended more than 500 patients in the health camp and distributed free medicines among poor tribal villages.

"Till a few years back, these areas were militant infested, but now peace has resumed here and the health camp that the TSR organised is of great help to the local villagers. We get free treatment and medicines," Bhodhu Laxi Debbarma, a local villager, said.

The TSR, which played an important role in curbing the insurgency in the state, was awarded the President's Colours in 2013, only the fourth police force in the nation to receive the honour.
