In a case of ragging gone awry, two boys were shot at, with one killed, when the elder brother of one of them had been ragged.
Speaking to ANI, the elder sister said, "My elder brother, a 2nd year student at the local MG Polytechnic College, was ragged on September 1by two-three people and he went and complained to the head of his department (HOD). The HOD asked for a written application for the same. When he took the written application to the principal, they told him that if couldn't bear with the ragging then he should take admission somewhere else."
"The same night, some boys came to the house on motorcycles. They saw my younger brother sitting outside the house with his friend and opened fire on both of them. My brother was killed while his friend has been grievously injured," she added.
Satendra Vir Singh, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Aligarh said, "According to the FIR that was filed, three people have been named. The brother who had been ragged named one Abhishek Yadav, accusing him of ragging. So far, two people so far have been detained and our investigations are on.
Following University Grants Commission (UGC) recommendations, ragging today has been defined as an act that violates or is perceived to violate an individual student's dignity.
