Two active members of a Maoist outfit surrendered before police in Odisha's Malkangiri.
Both the Maoists were working as area commander of Kalimela committee in Malkangiri Division.
Sub Divisional Police Officer, M. Sandeep Samant, said the rebels surrendered before the Malkangiri police with the desire to give up arms and join the social mainstream.
One of the Maoists was identified as Madkami alias Bikram, an active member of the committee from 2007-2009. He was responsible for all the violence during that period in the Kalimela area. The other man identified as Muda Soni worked as an active militia in the Kalimela area. He was responsible for violence in southern state of Andhra Pradesh and central state of Chhattisgarh during that period.
"These two Maoists used to work with Kalimela committee, which is a part of Malkangiri division under Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee. The Maoist group is fed up of violence and also because of the hard life they have to lead. Moreover, the frequent combing operations conducted by police and paramilitary forces in the forests also intimidate them and they decided to surrender for this reason," said Samant.
The Maoists would now get help from police to get back to a normal life apart from other facilities as per government rules.
