Two armed men have been killed after they opened fire at the security official outside an event exhibiting depictions of the Prophet Muhammad in Texas' suburban Dallas.
According to Fox News, the contest was hosted by the New York-based American Freedom Defense Initiative that promised an award of 10,000 dollars for the best cartoon depicting Muhammad.
According to a statement by the city Of Garland posted online, the men drove up to the Curtis Culwell Center and began shooting at the security officer following which Garland Police Department officers engaged the gunmen, who were both shot and killed.
The security officer's injuries were not life-threatening and he was released from a local hospital later in the day.
Several nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution and a bomb squad was on the scene late Sunday night.
