The United States has said that it does not have any confirmation on Pakistan's banning of Hafiz Saeed led Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and the Haqqani Network as the country works through reassessing its measure to eradicate extremism.
According to Dawn News, U.S. State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki said that the U.S. recognises Pakistan's efforts to "thwart violent extremism" but cannot confirm specific steps.
Pakistan has included both JuD and Haqqani Network in the list of proscribed outfits in the light of international pressure to outlaw the terror groups and froze their assets on Thursday.
Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said that the government's ban on the terror outfits came as a "decision under the UN obligation and not under pressure from any other quarter".
Psaki said that it is Pakistan's own interest to take steps against terrorist outfits and not differentiate between them.
