In a bid to avoid delays by the customers after ordering cars, American multinational online transportation network company Uber is allowing drivers to start charging passengers after waiting for two minutes.

The driver can also leave the passenger altogether if the customer is not quick.

The California-based company is currently experimenting this on a trial basis in New York, New Jersey, Dallas and Phoenix, but are not yet being rolled out on a permanent basis, the Guardian reports.

"While we encourage riders to only request a ride when they are ready, we understand that sometimes they are running a little behind. In these cases drivers will be compensated for the extra minutes they need," Uber said in a blog post titled 'Making the Most of Your Time.
