Reacting to Congress leader Ajay Maken's comments aimed at Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani, Union Minister Uma Bharti on Wednesday asked about the qualifications of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
"The Congress is asking about the qualifications of Smriti Irani, but I want to ask what the qualifications of Sonia Gandhi are?" Bharti asked.
"She was heading the UPA Government and was taking all the major decisions. I want to see her certificates. Then only the Congress has a right to ask about the qualifications of Irani," she added.
She was responding to Congress leader Ajay Maken's critical tweets that questioned Irani's right to be the country's new HRD minister given her poor and incomplete educational qualifications, which had been submitted to the Election Commission of India, when she had filed her nomination to contest this year's general elections from the Amethi constituency.
Irani was made a minister despite her losing the elections to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
Earlier, Uma Bharti formally took charge as the Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejunvenation and vowed to clean the Ganga River.
