Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharati has announced that a better flood management system would be implemented in Assam, a state which suffers huge losses due to floods every year.
Speaking at the third Assam Water Resource Conference in Guwahati, Bharati called for judicial usage of available water resources for the development of the state.
The two-day conference was inaugurated by Bharati, along with Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Dr Jitendra Singh and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
Bharati further said that Assam's hydrological potential was not being used to the fullest.
"We will change the anti-erosion and flood management pattern so that maximum benefit is reached to the people of the state," she said.
Bharati has also called a meeting with the Brahmaputra Board on February 11 in order to make restructure it.

"We have decided to restructure, reframe and reshape the Brahmaputra Board, which has hydrological and water management potential, which will benefit the people," said Bharati.
The Brahmaputra Board is an autonomous statutory body which in helps in water resources management of the Brahmaputra and Barak Basin for sustainable development of water resources in order to provide optimum benefit to the people with emphasis on control of flood and bank erosion.
