UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has announced that the death toll in Syria's civil war has risen to more than 100,000.

According to the Stuff.co.nz, Ban said that it is imperative to have a peace conference in Geneva as soon as possible to halt the violence going on in 2-1/2 year civil war.

The Syrian civil war aiming to remove the Ba'ath government headed by President Bashar al-Assad has turned brutal after foreign powers have started aiding the rebels in the country.

The United States and Russia are trying, along with the United Nations, to bring together the Syrian government and the opposition to agree on a transitional government based on the plan adopted in Syria a year ago.
