The United Nations human rights experts have expressed concern about the failure of the United States jury to charge policeman involved in the death of Eric Garner, the unarmed black man who died after being placed in a choke hold by the police officer last summer.

The UN said that it was a part of a broader "pattern of impunity" that concerns minority victims.

According to the BBC, grand juries in Missouri and New York have failed to charge the officer.

Human rights expert Mireille Fanon-Mendes-France, who currently heads the UN Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent pointed to the longstanding existencee of racial discrimination faced that African-Americans face especially when it comes to justice and discriminatory police practices.

Angry protesters have occupied several parts of the city chanting "no justice, no tree!" to protest against the grand jury's decision.

A crowd of about 50 demonstrators staged a "die in" next to the information booth at Grand Central as cops surrounded them but took no action.
