FIFA's embattled president Sepp Blatter has reiterated that he is 'clean' and insisted that his achievements will be acknowledged once he has left the world football's governing body.

The 79-year-old, who was re-elected for a fifth term in May as president but then stood down amidst an investigation into corruption charges , slammed his critics by saying that he was respected in many parts of the world.

Blatter insisted that he along with FIFA has done a lot for the development of football, adding that his contributions would be recognised when he is gone, Sport24 reported.

Michel Platini, the UEFA president, is considered as the favourite to succeed Blatter when he steps down next year.

FIFA's reputation has been severely tarnished after 14 sports marketing executives and football officials, including several from Zurich-based FIFA, were indicted by the United States in late May over corruption charges.

Meanwhile, swiss prosecutors have been investigating the bids for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, won by Russia and Qatar respectively after ex-FIFA official Chuck Blazer admitted of accepting bribes for choosing countries to play hosts for the World Cups.
