Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Thursday took to twitter to express his disappointment over being denied permission for holding a rally in Varanasi.

"It is unfortunate that EC is not concerned about the institution's neutrality and that is why our Karyakartas have to embark on a Satyagraha," Modi tweeted earlier in the morning.

"I appeal to my Karyakarta sisters and brothers to maintain peace and ensure that people do not face any difficulty" he further tweeted.

Apologising to Ganga Maa for not being able to perform Aarti, Modi said, "Wish these people know that a Mother's love is above politics."

BJP is outraged after the district administration denied permission to Modi for holding one of the two rallies in Varanasi on Thursday.

The party will protest in Varanasi and Delhi against the decision. BJP leader Arun Jaitley will lead the protest outside the Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi.
