Czech tennis player Tomas Berdych has reportedly blamed the 'lottery' of the tie-break for his semi-final defeat by Swiss ace Stanislas Wawrinka in the Australian Open.
The Czech seventh seed won the second set on a tiebreak to level but then lost out in two more as he went down 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 to miss out on a second Grand Slam final.
According to Stuff.co.nz, Berdych said that although he played very well in the game and built the tactics and the game plan on his strength, he lost as the tiebreak is always a 'big lottery' and Wawrinka got lucky by winning the game.
Stating that he is not good at playing matches in tiebreaks, Berdych also said that he needs to improve on that point, adding that other than that problem, he was able to play aggressive tennis without making many errors.
Usually a tiebreak favours the player with the bigger serve as he is likely to have to work less hard for points but Berdych was his own worst enemy as double faults in each one helped the Swiss get over the line, the report added.
