Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said the public does not vote in the same way for the general elections, as it does in assembly polls.

"People are saying that this is the semi final before the 2014 general elections, but, I want to tell them, that in a semi-final, there are more teams," said Tharoor.

"Our voters do not vote in the same way for Lok Sabha polls, as they vote in the assembly polls. There is no guarantee that the result for Lok Sabha will be on the similar line with the assembly polls. There is unpredictability, which is the greatest characteristic of a democracy," Tharoor added.

"A similar thing happened in 2004. After winning three states, the BJP moved to 2004 general elections. They projected their 'India Shining' slogan but in the end they lost the elections," Tharoor said on the BJP who is already claiming electoral victory in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Chhattisgarh.

"We don't know if the exit polls are accurate. Tomorrow, the results might not be the same as the media and the BJP expect it to be. And even if the actual results are somewhat similar to the exit poll results, still it does not predict anything for the Lok Sabha polls," said Tharoor.
