Taking a jibe at People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti's remark that fringe elements "misusing the name of Hinduism" need to be checked, National Panthers Party (NPP) chief Bhim Singh on Sunday called her the most unreliable character in Jammu and Kashmir politics and said that she should be adopted by Shankaracharya to give preaching to the Hindus.

"Mufti Mohammad's association is a hidden affiliation with anti-national elements. His daughter now today is only adding to what we had been saying and the people had been saying that she is not a reliable character in Jammu and Kashmir politics," Singh told ANI.

"I think she should be adopted by Shankaracharya to give preaching to the Hindus. She was the one who was supporting all anti-national elements and it was she who persuaded her father to release some of the hardcore terrorists from the jail by getting her own sister arrested through Yasin Malik. It is an open story," he added.

Meanwhile, Congress leader P.L. Punia also condemned Mehbooba's statement and said that action must be taken against the ISIS.

"No one says that all the Muslims are associated with the ISIS. Anyone can be associated with it. Probe should be done against that person, who is associated with it. Mehbooba Mufti, who is giving a general statement, is not correct," he added.

Mehbooba Mufti had yesterday said that fringe elements misusing the name of Hinduism need to be checked and made a comparison to the Islamic State (IS) misusing the name of Islam.

"Tolerance is the strength of India and if we don't stop these so-called fringe elements. What is happening in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq. because those are also fringe elements who are misusing the name of Islam. In our country, as well, the fringe elements are misusing the name of Hinduism and they are calling it nationalism which is worse," she said while speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit.
