Following public outcry over an unveiled anchorwoman appearing during a broadcast on a Saudi news channel, the state television has stepped up to offer an explanation on the incident.
Saleh Al Mughailif, the spokesperson for the Saudi radio and television, said that the anchorwoman was a correspondent reading news from a studio in Britain and not in Saudi Arabia, reported the Gulf News. He further added that the state television would not tolerate any transgression of societal values and the country's systems.
The woman appeared on Al Ekhbariya news channel.
The spokesperson said that all measures would be taken to ensure that the incident is not repeated on national television in future.
Meanwhile, several social media users condemned the transgression of Saudi traditions while others felt that the incident was blown out of proportion.
