Justifying his decision to send back the file concerning the appointment of a new Lokayukta in Uttar Pradesh, Governor Ram Naik on Saturday said that he rejected the file because due process was not followed.
"It is true that the Lokayukta file has been sent back for the second time. I have said that due process must be followed. There are two things important here. One is that Chief Minister, leader of the opposition in the Vidhan Sabha and Chief Justice (of the High Court) have to decide on this, and I noticed that they did not meet even once," Naik told media persons.
"Chief Justice (of the High Court) had said that a panel should be formed to take a decision. Neither the meeting was held nor was a panel formed. Once the due process is followed and I get the file again, I will take an appropriate decision," he added.
According to reports, the Uttar Pradesh government had on Thursday sent a file to the Governor regarding the appointment of Justice Ravindra Singh Yadav as state's new Lokayukta. The Governor had returned the file saying that due procedure was not followed while appointing the Lokayukta.
