Expressing complete confidence in the second of the seven-phase assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress party on Thursday said that people are agitated with the demonetisation move therefore they are supporting Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance to improve the condition of the state.
"Today's record breaking voting proves that people are furious regarding the demonetisation move. Elections are the only way through which people show their agitation towards those with whom they are angry. Right now, people are annoyed with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)," Congress leader Dwijendra Tripathi told ANI.
Voting for 67 constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh figuring in the second of the seven-phase assembly elections in the state ended on Wednesday.
A total of 720 candidates were in the fray as voting was held across 11 districts - Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Bareilly, Amroha, Pilibhit, Kheri, Shahjahanpur and Badaun.
Official figures regarding the voter turnout are yet to come out from the Election Commission.
Till 5 p.m. 65.5% voting percentage was recorded in Uttar Pradesh and the counting is still on, Election Commission said.
