The Akhilesh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh Government has come under renewed criticism from various activists and politicians for the crime wave that is being witnessed against women of the state.

Close on the heels of the Badaun and Azamgarh rape cases, another gruesome account of a woman's rape and murder has been reported from Bareilly.

According to media reports, a woman was gangraped in Bareilly and her body was found in a mutilated condition. The reported incident has sparked fresh condemnation from women's rights activists. Shamina Shafiq of the National Commission for Women said that the Bareilly case shows failure on the part of the police.

NCW Chairman Mamta Sharma, who termed the Bareilly incident 'unfortunate,' also came out strongly against the UP administration for the administration's inability to prevent such crimes. She said, "This is a very unfortunate incident. The UP CM has to take preventive steps. I will summon the DGP and ask him what action they have taken and we will take action for sure. I will serve the notice to the DGP because he is responsible for the entire state."

CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat too asked some stern questions regarding women's safety in UP. She said, "Samajwadi Party in UP has a lot to answer. They are trivializing the whole issue of rape.
