Taking a dig at the UPA II Government, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley on Saturday called it a 'dead duck government' and added that the government's vindictive attitude towards the opposition had vitiated the environment of consensus building.
Speaking at the FICCI Ladies Organisation annual inter-state meet, Jaitley said the government couldn't take decisions.
"We used to earlier say it is a lame duck government. I think closer truth is that it is dead duck government. Decision making by this government under this environment is not going to be possible," said Jaitley.
"You can't built up an environment of consensus on economic issue if morning to evening you are conspiring political confrontations. How do I destabilize an opposition government?"
"How do I use CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) morning and evening in order to hurt the opposition?" he added.
Taking example of the recent assembly elections in four states- Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, Jaitley said, "There was a message in the last assembly elections. First was that you govern well in your states and then you are in a position to defy the anti-incumbency. So those who got elected for the third and fourth time have proved this point. Good governance alone may not help you to win elections. Good governance blended with some clever politics may help you to win. But bad governance will certainly make you lose."
"Therefore one of the great messages that came out was that if thought you had only some schemes, which according to you are extremely popular and that alone will help you win elections," he added.
"So all the slogans of recent months have absolutely no impact as far the electorates are concerned, because the electorates are looking at something much more that is effective governance," he said.
