UPA will get a third term: Sonia Gandhi

Ruling out the possibility of early Lok Sabha polls in the country, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) will win the 2014 elections.

"Our aim is to go till the end (of the government's tenure)," said Gandhi, when asked about the about the possibility of early general elections.

To a poser on if UPA-III will be a reality, Gandhi said: "Yes, of course, 100 percent."

Commenting on the Food Security Bill pending before the Parliament for its passage, the UPA chairperson said she is hopeful that it will be passed next week.

"We are hopeful it will be passed," she told media here on the sidelines of a function here.

Gandhi also condemned the gangrape of a photojournalist in Mumbai, saying she is saddened and pained by the incident.

Commenting on the ongoing protests surrounding the creation of a separate Telangana state, Gandhi said that the AICC panel headed by senior Congress leader A K Antony is hearing the concerns of those affected.

The Congress-led UPA II Government led by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has been facing sharp criticism from the opposition on issues related to price rise, economic slowdown and the rampant corruption in the country.
