A government-owned channel in Romania has drawn the ire of advocacy groups fighting anti-Semitism after they broadcasted a Christmas carol that indirectly glorified the Holocaust and called for people to burn Jews in a chimney.
According to ABC News, a local group, who performed the song at the studio, used the word "jidovi", a derogatory term for a Jew, in the lyrics, which go like "only in the chimney as smoke, this is what the 'jidov' is good for".
Titus Corlatean, country's Foreign Minister, condemned the event and urged the public prosecutor's office and parliament to punish those who were responsible for the act.
However, the channel has claimed that it was not responsible for selecting the Christmas songs, but merely broadcasting carols selected by a cultural center.
But, an NGO supporting anti-Semitism said that it was unacceptable for the channel to evade responsibility by blaming the local organization.
