'Upset' Shane Jurgensen seeking to resign as Bangladesh coach over 'sacking' speculations

Former Australian cricketer Shane Jurgensen is reportedly seeking to resign as the coach of the Bangladesh national team as he apparently is upset at speculations that he might be sacked from his post.

The former first-class cricketer from Queensland was appointed full-time coach in February last year with a mandate to build the team for next year's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

However, Sport24 reports that despite playing the entire season on home soil, Bangladesh lost the Test, ODI and Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka, was beaten by Afghanistan in the Asia Cup and lost to minnows Hong Kong in the World T20.

A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) spokesman said that they had received a letter from Jurgensen, in which he said that he would not continue as coach after the home series against India in June, adding that they assumed that he is upset with recent media speculation about his position.

However, the spokesman added that the board has not accepted Jurgensen's resignation as it is an 'emotional decision' and they are prepared to talk to him about it.

Bangladesh said they will host India for three one-day internationals in June, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet confirmed the series, the report added.
