American fashion retailer Urban Outfitters has withdrawn its offensive "Lord Ganesh" socks from the market and have apologised to Hindus for being culturally insensitive.

According to Philly.com, the retailer had tried to lure customers into buying its 8-dollar worth red and blue crew-length socks, which featured an image of the Hindu deity, by claiming that it was "awesome and an UO Exclusive".

However, President of Universal Society of Hinduism, Rajan Zed, asked for the removal of the socks from the retailer's site and stores after slamming the use of the religious symbol.

The firm recently said that they sincerely apologized if they offended the Hindu community and their customers.
