Uri attack: Meeting of Cabinet Committee on security ends

The meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security held at the PMO ended here on Wednesday afternoon.

The meeting is significant in the backdrop of Uri terror attack, in which 18 army jawans were martyred. The Cabinet Committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation arising out of the attack.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Home Minister Rajnath Singh , Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and others.

Meanwhile, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi has reviewed the security situation in Kashmir in the backdrop of the deadly militant attack on an army base in Uri and the ongoing unrest in the valley.

Mehrishi arrived in Srinagar early Tuesday morning and held series of meetings to review security situation across the Kashmir Valley.

He had detailed discussions with top officials from various security forces, police and intelligence agencies.

The international community continues to condemn the Sunday's terror attack in Uri which killed 18 Army personnel. Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and many other countries have extended their support to India in its fight against terrorism.

German Ambassador to India Martin Ney said that every country is responsible for taking decisive action against terrorism emanating from its territory.

Expressing its solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism, Japanese Foreign Ministry said, no act of terrorism can be justified.

In a letter to Prime Minister Modi, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, her country will continue to work with India to eradicate the menace.

Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani called up Prime Minister Modi yesterday and condemned the attack.
