The United States has reportedly urged all the sides in Pakistan's political standoff to exercise restraint and has said that it strongly opposes efforts to impose change via violent means.
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that Washington has been monitoring the Islamabad protests carefully and continues to urge all aides to respect the rule of law. While it said that the protesters had a right to demonstrate peacefully but destruction of public property and resorting to violent means are not acceptable ways of resolving political differences, reported the Dawn.
Psaki also emphasized that Washington opposes any attempts to impose extra-constitutional change to the political system.
Protesters led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri have been occupying the streets for the last two weeks demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
