US civil rights campaigners have started a 40-day march to bring to the fore the alleged fresh attack on equal rights for the African Americans.

According to the BBC, the campaigners started the march from Selma, Alabama, which was the starting point of a march 50 years ago that supported watershed legislation enabling black people to vote.

Activists say a 2013 Supreme Court decision has allowed some states to reverse some of that progress.

Protesters hope that they will be joined by thousands of people in final rally in Washington DC in September.
