The United States Government has said that it is concerned about Russia, Syria and Iran forming an alliance to fight the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and believes that such an arrangement could threaten American interests in the region.
The Washington Times quoted Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain, as saying that recent new developments in Syria indicate that US policy is "struggling."
He also said that Russian intervention has raised the cost and risks of US involvement in Syria and tougher response by the country is needed.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said coordinated efforts to counter the ISIS will be effected sooner than later.
