US Congressman Joaquin Castro has called for the resignation of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Kevin McAleenan following the death of a 7-year-old Guatemalan girl in US custody.
According to Sputnik, Castro while addressing the media said, "I also discovered that there were other disturbing facts, like during the 94-mile bus ride where she started to present serious symptoms of medical and bodily failure, there was nobody onboard that could offer any kind of medical help to her and no medically trained personnel."
The Congressman further claimed that the chief admitted that the CBP violated US law by not informing Congress within 24 hours of the Guatemalan minor's death.
Calling CBP facilities "under-resourced", he also mentioned that the facilities lacked proper medical equipment in case of an emergency.
The minor died due to dehydration and shock, after being taken into US custody for crossing into the US from Mexico with her father and a large group of migrants along a remote stretch of New Mexico desert.
