The battle against the Islamic State insurgents may outlive the Obama administration and the present Congress, said US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter on Wednesday.
In a hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Secretary Carter said that sent an unmistakable message to IS leaders, adding that the militants couldn't divide them and they (IS) had no hope of defeating them, the Dawn reported.
President Barack Obama and Congress will complete their respective tenures in two years.
Speaking at the first congressional hearing on Obama's request for an updated authorization for the use of military force, Carter stated that the proposed authorization wisely didn't include any geographical restriction, insisting that IS already showed signs of metastasizing outside of Syria and Iraq.
