The United States has deployed about 80 military personnel to help Nigerian military find more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

In a letter to Congress, President Barack Obama said that the troops were deployed in Chad as part of effort to help Nigeria find the abducted schoolgirls.

Obama said that these personnel will support the operation of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance aircraft for missions over northern Nigeria and the surrounding area.

According to news24, he added that the force will remain in Chad until its support in resolving the kidnapping situation is no longer required.

A senior Obama administration official said the military personnel were deployed to Chad with the consent of that government.

Some will maintain the unmanned aircraft involved in the mission and the rest will provide security for the group, the report added.
