The US has reportedly expressed 'disappointment' with Chinese authorities for having failed to hand over NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden to the US authorities.

US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns said that China's failure undermined trust in the bilateral ties, BBC reports.

According to the report, Burns said that US was disappointed with how the authorities in Beijing and Hong Kong handled the Snowden case, which undermined our effort to build the trust needed to manage difficult issues.

Meanwhile, Chinese state councillor Yang Jiechi said that Hong Kong's actions were in accordance with its law.

Snowden's revelations about the US led surveillance program have soured US relations with other nations including China and Russia.

The report added that Snowden is still holed up at Moscow's airport as his US passport has been revoked and Venezuela is awaiting his response to the asylum offer.
