Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry has said that the US nuclear deal with India has "affected strategic stability which existed before that" in South Asia.
The Dawn quoted Choudhry, as saying that maintaining strategic balance in South Asia was necessary for peace.
The foreign secretary was speaking ahead of leading a Pakistan team for strategic talks with the Americans in Washington on Tuesday.
He said that Pakistan's nuclear program will only be a weapon of deterrence considering the perception of threat from India.
Choudhry also said that Pakistan had made progress in term of nuclear safety.
