A US politician, who launched a bill that could send people to jail for wearing revealing outfits, has been labelled as "perv" and "American Taliban."

Montana State Representative David Moore, who introduced a bill recently to ban clothing that "gives the appearance or simulates" a person's genitals, said that yoga pants should be made illegal anyway, News.com.au reported.

According to the bill, which was drafted with retired professor Walt Hill, first time offenders would face six months in jail and a 500 dollars fine, second time offenders would face 1 yr in jail and 1000 dollars fine and a person convicted three times for indecent exposure could be sentenced to five years in jail and fined 10,000 dollars.

Americans took it to Twitter to share their opinions, with one user saying "David Moore is un-American" and another posting "Montana State Rep David Moore recovering after seeing women in bike pants; hopes to be well enough to see ballet tonight."

Melissa Ann Goodwin wrote "Bet more people would want to see me in my#yogapants than see Montana state rep. David Moore in his regular pants. #toomuchtimeonhishands" and another user said "David Moore is un-American.... #YogaPantsBan.
