US Treasury Secretary Lew calls on PM Modi

United States Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew on Thursday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national capital.

During their meet, Prime Minister Modi recalled the recent successful state visit by US President Barack Obama, adding that economic and financial cooperation between New Delhi and Washington DC is an important pillar of strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Prime Minister further stated that the government is committed to provide a predictable and stable tax regime and welcomed the interest expressed by the US companies to invest in India.

Expressing deep appreciation at the 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana' initiative, Lew commended the positive approach adopted by India in addressing issues of the foreign investors.

Lew, who was also accompanied by US Federal Reserve vice chairman Stanley Fischer, are in the city for the India-US Economic and Financial Partnership Dialogue, which is co-chaired by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
