The U.S. State Department has said that it does not and will never support any calls for increasing tensions or rhetoric between India and Pakistan.

Replying to questions posed by media at it daily briefing, State Department Press Office Director, Elizabeth Trudeau said, "No, I wouldn't say that any call for increasing tension or increasing rhetoric is something that we would support. We've been very clear on our position on that. But again, it would be the government of that minister to speak to his remarks."

Responding to another question on Pakistan's reported plans to declare July 19 as a "Black Day", Trudeau said , "Obviously, we're gravely concerned about this situation. We're gravely concerned about the violence. In terms of those specific comments, which we are aware of, I'm going to refer you to the government to speak to the words of their own minister. As we've said before, it's a situation where we need all parties to this to reduce the rhetoric, reduce the violence, get back to a situation where they can have dialogue.
