Use latest tech to expand tax compliance and assessment, tells Chidambaram

Finance Minister P. Chidambaram today asked Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Income Tax to use latest technology and the vast information base at their disposal, to expand tax compliance and assessment.

Chidambaram, who inaugurated the annual conference of the Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Income tax at Vigyan Bhavan this morning said enough time and attention should be devoted to analyze and piece together untapped information using latest technology to improve tax related services.

The annual conference will allow the Chief Commissioners/ Directors General to have direct interaction with the senior functionaries of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on various issues arising in the field.

The main areas for deliberations during the two-day conference would be steps to augment revenue, tax administration reforms, strengthening of TDS machinery, widening and deepening of tax base, improving taxpayer services and Human resources management among others.
