A major bug in Twitter's hashing process has exposed the password of over 330 million of its users. The company has now asked all of its users to change their passwords immediately.

The hashing process masks the passwords by replacing them with a random string of characters. However, because of the bug, the passwords were exposed in plain text.

Twitter claims that it discovered the bug on its own and removed the passwords, The Verge reports.

While there has been no breach or misuse of the unmasked passwords, Twitter is recommending all of its users to change their password, including for third-party apps such as TweetDeck and Twitterrific.
