The Vadodara Municipal Corporation's Health Department has raided drinking water manufacturing factories in the city to ensure that unsafe drinking water was not being manufactured, with the aim also to control the spread of diseases due to consumption of the same.
According to reports, nearly 21,000 packets of water were destroyed by the officials in Wednesday's raid due to the unhygienic content. It was also discovered that some facilities were not functioning in accordance with the safety standards set by the corporation.
Purified drinking water is in huge demand during the summer months and industries take advantage of this fact to compromise on safety standards. In raids last year, traces of cyanide and other chemical containments were found in packaged drinking water. Subsequently it was discovered that factories did not use purification techniques such as Reverse Osmosis nor did they make use of filtration devices such as carbon and sand filters.
